Early Black Settlement in York Region

Speaker:  Carl Finkle – Former President of the King Township Historical Society

An Introduction to Early Black Settlement in the York Region:  this presentation will look at early Black settlement in the York region with an emphasis on two families who settled in King Township tracing their very different paths in coming to Canada and where they settled.

 

The Phyllis Marshall Story

The second part of Carl Finkle’s presentation focuses on the life of Phyllis Marshall, a successful singer/actor and star on CBC TV in the early 1950s.  Mr.  Finkle will trace her ancestral roots which began in York Region, Collingwood, and Woodstock and speak towards her great work and talent.
